It has been quite a while since my last post but I do have my excuses, I promise! First things first, I started my online college a few weeks ago and I have been taking the time to get adjusted to a new schedule. So far I really am enjoying it, and finishing school will be extremely easy!
We also had our internet speeds upgraded from a measly 2.5Mb/s to 24Mb/s with a 1Mb/s upload rate; this means I can now upload huge photos without spending all day waiting for a small batch of 10 photos to upload. 1Mb/s is still generally slow but it’s more than double of the previous speeds. I definitely won’t have any complaints there!
Now that my workflow can change I will focus more on taking stock photos over the upcoming summer. I will be traveling a lot next month, but do expect to see more photos online before then. I also plan to figure out what I want to do with my YouTube channel, but I’m in no big hurry yet; these other things need to be sorted first. Anyways, I’ll keep this short, and wanted to let anyone who reads this know that I still am working on stock photography.
I’ve been contemplating on what to do with my YouTube channel for the past few days; so far I’ve got a few general ideas, mostly dealing with photography and travel. Anyone with any suggestions as to what you think would be enjoyable to watch will help me out a ton. If I plan to do something with this channel I want to create useful and entertaining content that everyone will look forward to see more of. Over the next few days I’ll keep brainstorming ideas and come up with the best ones I like; if anything is good enough I’ll work out a first “episode” and see how people like it and decide to go from there.
As for other things I’d like to wish everyone an early happy holiday season! I’m working on some more photos to put up on Flickr and various stock agencies, so once I sort myself out a little more I’ll provide links and such. Thanks for reading! Hope everyone is well, and feel free to check back often for updates.
It’s been a little while since I last posted something, so I’ll feed you all in on what’s been going on, while trying to keep this fairly short. I finished editing my photos from Europe, many of which are on my Facebook; however, I’m holding off on uploading them to Flickr until I send in another batch of stock photos to Agencies just for the sake of organization.
In my next post I will provide links to my portfolios for various agencies just for convenience. Getting a large extensive portfolio of images online will be difficult due to my poor internet speed, so until then I’m sticking to relatively small but high quality batches of photos.
Well this is quite exciting! In just a few days my family and I are going to be in Italy for nine days; we’re going on a special tour by a group of Legionnaire Brothers that we know through a close friend. Our tour will take us all over the Vatican and even into the Papal audience to see the Pope bless all who are in St. Peter’s Square. So for those of you back at home expect a ton of photos by the time I get back, my camera is going to be attached to me like a limb! Once we’re done in Rome we’re also going to Florence, Venice, and Pisa; since we’re driving we will see a lot over this small vacation.
I think my favorite place to visit and shoot some photos at is going to be in Venice; there’s so many textures and colors that it would be impossible to not take a photo that is in some way captivating. That’s the exciting thing about photography in my opinion; capturing something that people will find awe-inspiring. Luckily I have already seen that kind of reaction from friends who browse my Facebook albums of Crete; it’s nice to know what people think, and what they like best. Anyways, I’m going to cut this short and wanted to let you guys know what’s coming up here in the next two weeks; so definitely keep reading! You won’t be disappointed.
Although at the moment there are very few readers I feel it’s necessary to hit the ground running. So to get started I’ll talk about my current plans for the near future regarding my career. My first priority at the moment is assembling a portfolio of around 30 photographs of what I would consider decent Stock images. I’ve already been asked by a few people why so few pictures and why an organized portfolio for something going directly online to essentially a new portfolio. The key reason is because of how important understanding what the market needs and where my quality lies. If some photos are rejected then I can evaluate myself on what was wrong and make appropriate changes.
Once I’m able to get my hands in on the market and understand the flow of things I will set another goal; for example: upload 100 good quality photos a week. I’m really wanting to spend as little time possible playing catchup with everyone else and essentially inject myself into the group of successful Stock and Microstock photographers. With most competitive fields the most ambitious make it out on top, which is quite admirable when you see someone start from nothing and build a very stable foundation that they continue to build upon. Before just pouring images into the market I’m going to ease myself in and build that steady foundation from which I will work to gain great success.
To complete this first post I would like to provide everyone a link to my Flickr account which contains most of my non-stock general travel photography while living here in Europe. Once I start submitting photos to various stock agencies I will provide various links and post a few sample photographs from my lightbox.
Thank you all for reading, I hope you look forward to seeing what’s to come as much as I am; before I leave I would also like to let everyone know that I have been contemplating creating a YouTube show based around Photography and such, so I will keep everyone in the loop once I figure everything out.
